What: Self advocates from all over the nation have joined the self advocacy movement. The self advocacy movement is about people with developmental disabilities learning to speak up the right to live, work, and play in the community. SABE (Self Advocates Becoming Empowered) is the US national self advocacy organization. SABE has been working hard for the full inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in the community since 1990.

Don’t miss the chance to miss out on this historical event that is occurring here in Missouri! SABE hosts a national conference every other year in a different state. Past conferences have been held in Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Rhode Island. This year, we are lucky enough to experience the national SABE conference in our very own state!

A new and unique magazine has entered the Kansas City market! In order
to empower parents, we are launching Parenting Children with Special Needs
magazine, filled with communication, general knowledge, understanding,
information, encouragement, support and guides to services.
Kansas City: Stephanie Myers, Publisher, is the mother of two-year-old, Brayden, who was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney
Disease at birth. Brayden will need a kidney transplant within the next 2-3 years. The kidney disease has affected his growth,
formation of red blood cells, appetite, ability to swallow, blood sugars and dietary needs. After being a stay-at-home mom, Myers
has started a magazine that will directly help other parents who have children with special needs in the Kansas City area.
Parenting Children with Special Needs will contain articles on the day-to-day life of raising and caring for special needs
children, along with guides to resources, articles from healthcare professionals, and poems, stories and photos from parents. This
publication will be included in some participating area school districts in the "Backpack Support Program," assuring that parents
with children in various special education programs will receive the magazine for support.
The first issue will debut July 15, 2010. A magazine launch event that is open to all special needs families will be held at
Faulkner's Ranch in Kansas City, Aug 28 from 9-noon. This FREE event will allow parents to meet other parents with common
interests in raising children with special needs. At Faulkner's we will have sponsored pony rides, a petting farm, hands-on crafts,
music, a moonwalk, food, sensory activities and much more.
Faulkner's Ranch in Raytown on August 28th from 9-12 noon!!!
